Colombia Sudan Rume Earns a Bronze Medal in the 2024 Golden Bean World Series
This past month, our newest coffee, Colombia Sudan Rume, earned a bronze medal in the filter category at the 2024 Golden Bean World Series against top coffee roasters from around the world.
The World Series is the grand final between the Northern Hemisphere and Southern Hemisphere to see who is the world's best coffee roaster.
To be eligible for the World Series, you have to have competed in a previous Golden Bean competition. All Gold and Silver medal winners are then eligible to enter into the World Series to compete against their Australasian counterparts in the World Series.
Since Crimson took home several silver medals in the 2023 Golden Bean competition for our NARSA Natural, Wayfarer Blend and Crimson Espresso––as well as taking 2nd place overall in the small franchise roasters category––we were eligible to compete in the World Series.
All coffees were judged blind by worldwide coffee industry professionals and roasters in categories such as Espresso, Milk and Filter beverages with medals awarded in 11 categories.
We submitted Colombia Sudan Rume for this particular competition because of its exclusivity, process, and unique tasting notes of apple candy, lime peel and grape juice that make it a great competitor.
This coffee was grown by Jairo Arcila at the farm Santa Monica. Sudan Rume was carefully hand-picked in order to select only the ripest cherries and then hand-sorted to remove any defects. The coffee then was sundried on raised beds in temperature controlled conditions until the ideal moisture content was achieved.
This micro-lot is 100% Rume Sudan––a rare Sudanese coffee found in the high plateaus of Sudan. It is resistant to diseases, Its yield is medium and the beans are large and long.
