Yunnan Da Ye White Tea
YUNNAN DA YE WHITE TEA CHINA
Yunan Da Ye (broad leaf)
Dehong, Yunnan Province
We have been eager to source with Vikki’s cooperative for a few years now but in most years, the harvest sells out long before we could taste it. Because of the pandemic, however, yield initially for this producer was way down but demand was down even more. What makes this tea unique is that it's grown on the border of Myanmar in Dehong. Most teas from this region coming from highly competitive areas such as Yiwu. The environment here creates a cinnamon-like flavor and other tastes similar to a small leaf variety (such as Fuding Silver Needles) but it's actually a big leaf variety. The tea is simply picked, quickly withered, then dried overnight which leaves it very high in polyphenol content. It also has a specific catechin (a class of flavonoids) called methyl salicylate that creates a note of mint in the tea.
Buttery and delicate with undertones of floral and citrus peel.
